I'm finally back! Despite the foggy condition at Heathrow, there is no delay at all. When I first arrived at Heathrow 2 weeks ago, I didn't have much time to take a look at the airport surrounding though this is not the first time I've been there.

But on the day when I came back, I soon realized that Changi Airport is the best! Heathrow, being known as one of the busiest airport in the world, wasn't as organized as Changi I would say. Maybe it's the busiest time for Heathrow on my return cuz everybody is rushing home for Christmas. And due to the fog and flight cancellation the day before that, the condition is quite chaotic. It is crowded, messy and long queue everywhere. I am glad to be back :)

Having said that, I am having a mild jetlag. I couldn't went to bed till 4am tis morning. By the time I knock off, the alarm started to ring. Time to get out of bed and go to work, while everybody else seems to be taking leave this week to go holiday...urghhhhhhh :(

Temperature -2 Severe Fog

I just came back from a short walk at the shopping area nearby my hotel. It wasn't a pleasant one but at the same time I felt so restless staying in the hotel room playing with the remote control. I decided to go for a walk but it wasn't a long one. It was soooo cold my ear almost wanted to fall off. In addition to the severe fog that causes hundreds of domestic flight cancelled in Heathrow, it is really not a good time to do shopping out there.

So, I'm back to the hotel again playing with the remote control :)

Temperature : -2 to 1C Foggy

It looks scary. The visibility is only within 100m. All you see is fog. Left right front back, you are surrounded by fog. The weather has been like this in the UK for the past 2 days. It's much colder than last week when I first landed. As I was watching the news minutes ago, I was stumped to find out that a lot of flights are cancelled due to the bad weather. And this is most likely to last till Friday. I'm going back on Saturday and I'm praying hard that the weather will turn out fine :)

This is Windsor Castle. Can you spot the flag? When it is up, the Queen is in. Yeah..this was yesterday when I paid 13.50 pound = S$40 for a visit to the castle. IT IS expensive but it's an eye opening experience. How frequent will you get to visit the castle, maybe just once in a lifetime. The interior architecture is just superb. Unfortunately, phtography is forbidden.

Anyway, I am came back to the hotel tonight, full of satisfaction. Because why? Because.......finally after 8 days, I get to eat a bowl of rice!! And it is fried rice with eggs!!! Yummy!!! I have been surviving on sandwich everyday for almost all of my lunch, cereal on breakfast and after 2 bad experience I had with room service, I stopped ordering it for dinner. And I missed rice. I stopped taking dinner for a couple of days only to realized that there was indeed quite a couple of nice restaurant nearby. I decided to give a try to this Thai restaurant upon checking out their menu at the entrance and making sure that the price is reasonable, although there is no limit of my food allowance.

I ordered fried rice with eggs and a plate of stir fried mix veggies. Hmmm...that was delicious. It makes me feel at home. Very chinese like cooking style. I came back to the comfort of my room, happily updating this blog and catching up with the "killer" news again :)

Day 7 - London

After a night of recovery from the headache I had last night, I'm off to London in the morning with Andrey, a colleague from Russia. While waiting for the rest to arrive later, we head off to Harrods. The famous luxurious shopping center where Princess Diana used to do her shopping. The rest of the day are on sight seeing.
Seen at the top is the London Eye in the far left. Far right is the Big Ben. London Eye was initially built by British Airways as part of their promotional activities and it was meant to be temporary. But because of popular demand, it has now become a permanent landmark in London.

Day 6 - Deaf and dumb

Event of the day -> Department Christmas dinner at Guananbara, London

It was a Brazilian...whatsoever restaurant with live music. Sounds good? Brazillian food is not common in Singapore, so you must be wondering what sort of food will it be. So am I.
It was a "Oh My Goodness" kind of place the moment I step in. My eyes almost pop up and my jaws are dropping. I can't believe I'm ending up at such places.

The moment I opened the door, all I see is darkness, smoke, smells of alcohol. That is not all ok. It was sooooooooo crowded I got to squeeze myself in to find where my other colleagues is AND the music is sooooooooooo damn loud!!! Sorry.....I got to use the d*** word cuz it's really d*** loud I can hardly hear myself even after shouting my lungs out. I felt as if I'm in a red light district. You can imagine how the ang moh is...drinking, dancing, couple mushi mushi here and there, bar girls going around selling turqilla. I juz can't believe it that we're having a department dinner in this place. I'm having problem hearing and talking throughout and became a passive smoker for 1 whole hour!! Oh my goodness. All I care off is to eat fast and leave fast. My head is getting heavier, my throat is aching, my ear hurts and I'm loosing voice. Imagine we have to use our mobile to key in messages to talk to one another. Having said all this, there's always something to be thankful. That there are ppl on the same channel as me. They hate the place as much as I do. So we ate as fast as we could and leave the place after an hour.

Temperature 9-13C, Cloudy

The long awaited Thursday finally came but ended up in a little disappointment. Why long awaited, because there is late night shopping on Thursday in Windsor during Christmas season. Why disappointed, because it doesn't really make much difference. The street probably have a couple more people than usual, shops are open but yet is as quiet as if it's closed.

Good thing though that I went with 2 of my colleagues today and found out from them that there's actually burger king, mcdonald and CHINESE FOOD nearby!! YAY!! I dun need to struggle on room service anymore! muahahahaha :)

After a few days watching the TV during the night, something funny I noticed abt the TV media here. If you have been following the news lately, even Asia1.com reported it, there's a serial killer in British island killing prostitutes. So far 5 is dead naked within 10 days. Everyday when you switch on the TV, this is what is being reported and when the news session ends, it takes a break, news again to report on the same thing. Every day and night without fail. The thing that puzzled me is that, it seems that other than weather forecast, this is the one and only news that they have been reporting and nothing else!! I am serious ok......British is such a big country and I'm totally not convinced that they have nothing else to report other than the killing. I dun understand loh. So boring...other TV channel sucks as well. Just when I'm typing this in my hotel room, I'm still hearing the same stories.........

Temperature 9C, Sunny :)

At last, after 2 gloomy days, I see sunlight with blue sky and cooling air. Love it!! Managed to do a quick snap before the weather turn bad again. As I was walking along the main road outside the hotel while waiting for my 'driver' to pick me up to work, I soon realized that Windsor is indeed a beautiful town. It was dark, drizzling and gloomy last two days, so didn't even bother to step out of the hotel. But I haven't got a chance to take good pictures on it and are yet to explore the castle and shopping area. Hopefully.....weather will be good over the weekend.

Talking about that fish & chips, not to mention that it cost a bomb but it taste -> sucks :( I am so NOT HAPPY with it loh even though I dun need to pay for it. I regretted....regretted of not bringing any 3 in 1 milo, regretted of not bringing cup noodle....muahhhhhhh...I missed it! Maybe....I'll go grab some over the weekend when I'm at London Chinatown hehehe....

Day 2

Temperature : 7C - Chilly

I totally knocked out b4 7pm yesterday night thinking that I can possibly sleep for 12 hours (as what I can usually do in Sin) but guess what, I woke up at 3am feeling energetic and couldn't get back to sleep till 5am. Luckily I managed to snooze another 2 hours before I got a wake up call at 7am.

Windsor, a small little town that I'm staying right now, is a nice town afterall. My hotel is located right opposite Windsor Castle. Yeah...nice castle but...sad to say....I have no time to explore. Imagine, I'm off to work at 8, leave office at 5.30. By the time I reached the hotel, it's already 6pm. To make thing worst.....it's already dark at 4pm, shops are closed at 5.30. So you see lah....how to explore like that!!! Dun talk about shopping. Want to take pictures also cannot!!!!!!Day time gloomy, at night lagi cannot say.

And there's no where that I can get dinner other than ordering room service. Look at this. Guess how much this meal cost me? If not because I can claim it back from office, cut my throat...I will starve till the morning breakfast!

Temperature : 8C

After a long 13 hour flight, I'm finally settled down at the comfort of my hotel room. It's 5pm local time, 1am Sin time and I'm trying to keep myself awake for another couple of hours before going to bed.

The weather is extremely gloomy. You could have imagine....grey sky, cloudy, cold and light drizzles. Urgh...... Hate it. The sky is almost dark by now, shops are closed and it's raining. So I'm stranded in the room, going online, watching TV and possibly, ordering room service or maybe not :)

Going alone on a business trip is not as fun as I thought. Gu gu tan tan yi ge ren....haiz..... I have 13 more days to go..... and I've started to miss Singapore and ppl in Singapore....Yeah....I MISS ALL OF U!!!

It was quite a pleasant run last sunday. The fact that the weather was extremely good. Not as exhausted and hot as before. But, I'm not any faster than my last run in Oct, but at least I'm maintaining my speed at the same level mah AND.....I'm more prepared for a longer one :)

Shortly after having a dinner buffet at Goodwood Park, I went home feeling chilled, headache and off to bed right after I reached home.

That was a departmental dinner that my boss have been trying hard to get everyone in it. It was a good gathering. Everyone was having either a cocktail, red wine or tiger beer with them. Boss is pestering me to take one. I ended up....ordering a mocktail of fruit punch :) which cost $9 for a small little glass. Cut my flesh lah if I were ask to pay for such drinks.

Today, I hesitated to come to work. Still feeling chilled and headache with sorethroat. But I'm always on "best service" award loh. I don't know why. Unless I'm real sick, I'll be guilty of taking mc. I'm totally wrong!! My head is feeling heavier now, I wearing 2 layers of clothe with the bright sunny light shining right on my back and my limbs feeling weak.

I don't want to fall sick leh...I have a run taking place this Sun. Must go :(

When I got the job offer for my current job last December, the first thing I was told is that I will be sent to Canada for a 2 weeks training. I loved travelling. I was overwhelmed and got so excited about it and has been thinking about it day in day night. Never in my life have I gone for a business trip.

Somehow things changed, there's new arrangement in my traning plan. Instead of me going, a trainer will be coming instead. Dreams shattered. But then, I was again scheduled to travel in April, postponed to August and to Nov because of lack of resources in the local office. I gave up...when it's time to go, I will be asked to go, I thought.

Now, guess what....I'll be off to London for 2 wks very soon!!! YAY!! For business of course but who cares!!

It has been approx 10 years (9 years and 6 mth to be precise) ever since I left that place after my graduation in June 1997.
Yes, I am excited to see how things has changed in London and for sure, I'll make a trip down to Portsmouth on the weekend and visit my old church friends that has been with me throughout my stay there. But then again, I wonder how many of them are still there........

:) I'm excited, I'm very excited:

-to meet colleague that I've been working with thru phone and email but not knowing how each other looks like.
-to be back to the place where I started to grow up independantly
-to wear winter clothe (have not been wearing it for long long time :( ) AND
-to do Christmas shopping over there!!

Update of "the" day

If you have been reading my previous post I spoke about my run 2 Sunday ago. I was saying that even a minute faster than the past is still an improvement.

Now....Guess what!!! I reached the finishing line at 1:16, 1 minute faster than my last run!!!!! Haiz....Toto also not so chun lah...I was hoping to complete below 1:15. Argh well....it's over.

At least, this time round, I no longer have the mental struggle of "why am I making myself doing such thing in an early Sunday morning", which is truely, seriously de-motivating on my 1st time. This time the struggle came when you just can't wait to reach the finishing line and that your leg is getting heavier and heavier. Your body started to give some warning, pain in the knee, pain in the butt, just don't feel comfortable anymore BUT it's still bearable. At this point of time, you probably need emotional strength as much as physical strength to keep you going. Usually happen to me after clocking abt 45 mins. Slowly, you see everybody running past you. And you started to take a quick peek behind, to see are there still people behind you. You just want to make sure that you're not the last to reach the finishing line. Luckily, there are many many more behind you and soon you realized that you're not that slow in actual fact :) muahahaha

One thing I realized though...is...do not judge a book by its cover. The plum and clumsy does not mean they can't run and the slim and "fit" looking doesn't mean they can run either. hehe....

So...at the end of 1:16:05 hr, this is what I get:

- 2 bananas
- 1 orange
- finisher medal (ONLY 10km FINISHER can get hor)
- learnt to endure pain and exhausion
- great sense of achievement

Preparation for the day

Upon request by WC, it's probably a good idea to share with you my preparation for "the" day.... "THE" day???? Sounds like a big day hor....No No No....it's NOT my wedding day :) It's just day where I got to get up as early as 5am (even harder when it's a Sunday), heading down to Esplanade and participate the yearly marathon organized by Standard Chartered, running for 10km. Good idea to share because it may become a "boost" to me so that I'll make sure I can achieve it...otherwise...pai seh mah...everybody knew about it right?

In actual fact, I wasn't really serious into preparing it BUT it has been an ongoing, frequent run in the past couple of month. A slight achievement is that, running for approx 7km is no longer a pain as before. The ache is not as bad either. Having said that, in 2 days time, I will have to get up early again, head down to Esplanade for the All Womens 10km run organized by Great Eastern.

I did not really prepared as much as I wanted to for this run. Initially, I was pretty active for like 2 months. Uh....just to elaborate a little bit more...."Active" includes exercising 5 times a week that includes running of course, strength training, swimming and aerobics. WOH!!! Looking back, I'm impressed. I can't believe that I have been consistently doing that for 2 months..haha. WC must be wondering why I never loose weight hor?!!! Actually a bit have lah, can see some improvement in the abs too and......uh...think I shall not go any further...pai seh :P. But after 2 weeks of sickness, the spirit kind of died down. I'm back to the usual fun runners. Abs become flabby again...muahahahaha....As the saying goes, it takes month and even years for someone to walk the right path, but it takes only 3 day for someone to go the wrong path. The same goes for me. How true!!! Anyway, I think I should be fine this Sunday, given that this is going to be my 3rd time doing a 10km run.

Last Dec std chart 10km -> 1:21 hr
Jul Shape10k run -> 1:17hr
Oct Great Eastern 10k-> I dunno but even 1 min improvement is consider as improvement right :)
Dec Std chart 10k -> Lagi dunno

But I'm really hoping that I will do better in the year end run but before that, got to get fitter first haiz......

I'm half less miserable cuz my application of public MSN got rejected LOL:0) BUT after deep thoughts over the night, I suddenly realized that I can try to use the web version instead.....hehe...and it works!! So, kind of incovenient and slow...but better than nothing loh

Now, I wonder whether the IS department will keep track on staff Internet surfing activities. Haiz... in my entire working life in the IS department, I'm the one who restrict people from connecting to MSN, I'm the one who track people's internet activity. I have UNLIMITED access to ANYTHING! Now that I'm no longer in IS dept.......this is happening to me!!!!!! wuah!!!! Retribution ah!!!!!

My office have just implemented a "go public" IM today! Meaning....you will be able to use MSN between worldwide colleagues using @quest.com account but at the same time you can migrate your personal contact to this account. That...also means that your existing account with is my personal MSN can no longer be use!!!!!! And in order for me to get access even to the @quest.com account, I need an approval from my VP. It's VP leh, not direct boss ok! Two level up hor.

So today.....I can only see people online, people can only see me online but no communication can be done. So sad u know!! Without hesitation, I "protest". I follow the link that say I'm not authorized to use MSN and click "here" to apply. And I did applied justifying why I should be given the access! Of course say it's work related lah and even mentioned I need to hold discussion at home too. But that's a fact ...I'm not lying although that's just part of the reason =P

Keep my finger cross that it'll get approved by the time I check my mail tomorrow......**sob**sob**

Because all important appliances at home seems to be worn out one after another. First is the air-con. It just refuse to provide me with the comfort of cool air despite an attempt to get it service. Even the serviceman commented that it's time to change....... Having said that, I'm still surviving with it having to bear the hot air at one time and a couple of mins of cold air the next minute. Easily..........S$2K will be gone in the next few month to get all 3 unit replaced.

Next, my TV! It suddenly refuse to display anything out of no where yesterday. I felt soooooo miserable without the TV. Suddenly I'm lost, dunno what to do. I'll have nothing to do other than watching TV. So now TV not working, what am I going to do? :( My TV, my companion...... I decided to switch off the main power and let it "rest" for an hour or so.....thank goodness....it's back to life!!

There's about 15 seats in my department and only 4 are occupied. We are all a bunch of **workacholic**(like real....) that works and works and works throughout the day. The reason I came to this conclusion is that for most of the time, it's only the radio that's entertaining me and only with the radio on, I won't be hearing any mosquito buzz..... Well well...not that there's really a mosquito in the office but I'm trying to say that the office is sooooooooo quiet I can hear a mosquito flying by. We hardly had any conversation. At times the number of conversation that I had in a day is within 10 fingers....unless we talk about work....Sad hor......I guess people over here is not as fun as talkative as compared to my previous company. The one that talks the most to entertain us is my boss....:p

Haiz....I missed the time when we can munch and talk and laugh together in my old firm......:)

Haiz.....I have been very slacked............slacked in updating this blog. It really amazed me how **some** people can update theirs almost every single day whereas I can hardly think of anything interesting happening in my life for the past week.....sad....sad..... Probably, my everyday routine is soooo fixed up so much so I'm like a robot day in day out.

To give you a general idea:
Mon-Fri
---------
6.30am - wake up
7am - go to work
8am - reached office, work work and work
6-6.30pm - ready to leave the office
7-7:30 - reached home
8pm- shower
8-10 - TV time
10:30 - Zzzzzzz

Sat - Church

That's it loh.... Other than having to struggle with "little creatures" at home, really...it's nothing much. Once in a blue moon maybe lah... Anybody out there wanted to add some colours to my routine.....please feel free! :)

I was waiting for a cab yesterday night to get home from Chinatown. Not long after, this cabbie came along. As usual, I told him "Pasir Ris St 52", in chinese for St 52 once I hop in to his cab. The first thing he told me is "Your chinese speaking is very "piau juen" = perfect chinese :) Walau!! I was like laughing out loud deep inside.... I responded "izit?" - in chinese of course. And he goes on saying "yeah....." and on and on and on.

Those who know me well.....you know why am I laughing out loud at the comments....Heeheheee

An ex colleague of mine have been convincing me again and again to buy a car. Just recently, he became a proud owner of a Honda Jazz and have been giving alllllll sorts of positive remarks about his new toy.

I started off the conversation by saying..."actually Jazz looks quite good in Red". His is black. So he goes one with "It's a good car....blah blah blah". If you have the money go for it.....there's more value added to your lifestyle other than $. To ease my curiousity, I asked how much u need to set aside each month for that toy.........S$1500 incl EVERYTHING!!! My goodness!!! That is way too much!! 1500x12 = 18000 p/year leh!!! Seriously speaking, I would rather spend that sum of money for an exotic vacation loh...

Maybe..........I'll consider when:

1) Car and COE prices drops tremendously
2) I have 1500 or more increment in my salary
3) I have extra extra $ dunno where to spent.....:) very very unlikely lah....

Cantonese

I have started speaking in cantonese eversince I started talking. Yes, you would have knew it...tat's when I'm about 1-2 years old I guess. And I always consider myself FLUENT in the language BUT believe me......it has NEVER been soooooo difficult for me to speak this language this morning.

I was speaking to a customer who is in Hong Kong about some issue he is encountering in our product. I greeted him in Cantonese and we started off the conversation pretty well. It goes on until it came to a point where I have to give him technical instruction. I'm lost!!! How to say "click" in cantonese ah? How to say "logs" ah? I started to panic and tongue tide and all of a sudden, I can't even speak a proper sentence in cantonse. I ended up with English+Cantonese in all my sentence. Muahahahaha....Thank goodness he understand what I'm talking about.....

Silly me......I think I shall stick to pure English next time....Haiz.........

While taking a break after a long day of spring cleaning my home, I decided to do something to this blog that has gone on hibernation for almost a month. I have been lazy...lazy to keep it up to date...:P It always ended up the same whenever I try to update. That is.............. after typing in a sentence, I decided to sign out and cancel whatever I've typed. This is my 5th attempt if I'm not wrong..Haha.....

To give you a brief summary, this is what happen to me in Feb.

Feb 1st - still enjoying my last day of cny in KL

Feb 2nd - Urgh........For the very first time in life, I'm working on a 6am shift. Yes, that would means that I got to wake up at 5am everyday. BUT....I get to leave office at 3pm!! It was hard in the first couple of days. I got to drag myself up from the comfort of my bed at 5am. It was quite ok though throughout the day.

Feb 6-10th - I started to enjoy my 6-3pm working hour more than the usual 8-5. It's kinda cool to get to work so early when nobody around to distrub you. Time passes by pretty quickly, probably that's because I'm busy but the feeling of going off at 3pm where everybody else is still working is.........HAHAHA awesome!!
This week....I had a colleague from Japan who's in town for 2 weeks. Hmm....after few days of working with him, I found out that he's kind of a "chi ko" person...urgh!!!! I hate it. I may be wrong but well.....better draw a line between him...

Feb 13-17th - A week that I'm so engross at work. That's because my beloved Russian trainer who has been here for 2 months to trained me up will be heading back to Russia by end of the week. I got to do as much as I can, ask as much as I can this week before he's gone. Pretty sad also loh cuz he has been so helpful and nice to work with....Sigh.....
Oh yea....have broke my own record this week too. Have been jogging for 4-5 times for the past 2 weeks...

Today - A whole day of spring cleaning. Yeah, it should be done b4 cny, but well.....got to see mood mah...today got mood. I actually cleaned thru some of the "corner" that hasn't been touched for years!! :)

Feb 20....- Chi ko japanese is gone, beloved trainer is gone..... Work will get stress without him. I'll be all alone in my team. New colleague should be on the way....... Will TRY to maintain my jog routine too!

Anyway, I'm feeling high in spirit to "chiong" for the week...Muahahahaha!

The extreme weather

If you have been following the news on global weather, you'll notice that those that are in winter now, is colder than ever whereas those in summer, is hotter than it was before. Even in Singapore itself, you'll see thunderstorm at one end and sunlight at the other end of the island at one time. As I'm talking to my Russian colleague who is in town couple of days ago, he mentioned that his colleague back in Russia now, is living in a -35C environment. The extreme of this -35C is that it is not snowing. It's ICY!! Ice everywhere! Imagine everything you touch is cold, imagine living in a refrigerator - a super cold refrigerator instead. I seriously could not imagine that though I've been to places like -5 the max I think. But I think it's not fun at all lah.... So cold....cannot do anything right?

And you know what.........according to the Russian government, all workers are entitled to 28 days of leave per year. 28 days!!! I'll probably take leave during these cold weather and better to hibernate at home lah.

EVERYDAY RAIN…….day in day out rain…..It has been such a cold week in Singapore I tell you…………….. Yeah…it’s comfortable but……….it’s cold loh. Good thing for sure is it definitely helps to save my electricity bill this month..yay :) For the first time in local weather, I’m sleeping in long pants without air-con without fan, WITH blanket up till the neck!!
It’s worst than ever in the office. My finger is soooooo cold I can hardly feel it. Funny thing is I have a Japanese colleague in town who thought he could get away from the cold in Japan and have some warm weather here only to find that the office here is as cold as in Japan's weatherHmm…….was wondering if there’s anywhere that sells portable heater here…haha…not to exaggerate but……if this goes on…..I’ll probably need one :)

New Year Resolution?

How does this thing call "New Year Resolution" come about? Nah....to me, you really do not need to wait till new year to have a new resolution right? It's probably a reason for you to escape and delay your "resolution" haha....At least that implies to me :) My so call new year resolution has never worked out after all these years...haha....STOP guessing!! I shall keep you update if it really happens....

While people are all out there admiring the fireworks and counting down to the new year, I had my own way of counting down too. I............ I.........was catching up on a HK TVB series when the clock strike 12am. Yeah yeah....it was kind of bored you may say.....but this series - Golden Faith I just can't stop when I started the 1st episode. It's not a new series but who cares......I like the lead actor...So charming :) I like I like...

Good looking lead actor, pretty actress, perfect couple, nice music..etc..etc....and this is another show that make me shed tears like crazy....hahaha...so silly hor.... but I just like like....heheheI'm a all time fans for TVB series which is the reason why I'm NOT subscribing to SCV cable. Else, I'll be sitting in front of the TV day in day out and won't have other life, which is what is happening in the last one week. Yeah, I completed the 45 series in 1 week! Highest record - 9 hours in a day!!

Multinational department (MND)

Some of you may be aware that I've just switched to work in another company few weeks ago. While I'm still happy and feel contented about my new job, there's also something which I just realized. Not only I'm working in a MNC, I'm also in a MND. My boss is an Australia and my 3 other colleagues at work comprises of 1 Singaporean, 1 chinese US citizen, 1 Russian and me a Malaysian. Another colleague which I'll be working closely with and reporting to the same boss, is in Japan. Yeah....He's a Japs.

That alone, give me lesser chance to speak "sing-lish", which in turn....dun feel so homely loh. Or perhaps.....maybe I'll continue my singlish with them since they are now residing in Singapore hor!!
